RAND is an independent Lebanese musical band formed in 2013 by three siblings: Youssef, Lili, and Jamale Abou Hamad. Building on their studies at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music, they create a unique acoustic sound with piano and vocals performing original songs, along with oriental and occidental classics. As of 2019, the band started to collaborate with guest musicians during its live concerts. To date, RAND released 11 singles including orchestral pieces: Libnan Al Iman (2014), Alit W Damaa Baayna (2016), Shou Sayerlak (2017), Vivre (2018), Kif Bhebak (2019), Awal Maghib (2020), Zaman Tani (2020), Haki Ma Naal (2021), Rah Ebaa (2022), Nsit (2022), and Nater Hob (2023). In Arabic, rand (رند) means the "Bay Laurel".
Under local and international media coverage since 2013, the band performed in different venues across Lebanon, Egypt, and the United States including: University Club of New York, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Jesuit Cultural Center of Alexandria, El Sawy Culturewheel, Grand Serail, Zaki Nassif Cultural Center, Al Madina Theatre, Saghbine Wine Festival, Lebaa Summer Nights, Safadi Cultural Center, Maarouf Saad Cultural Center, American University of Beirut, ESA Business School, Al Bustan Hotel, Beirut Souks, Zaitunay Bay, Saint Joseph University, Theatre Gemmayze, Sursock Palace, Four Seasons Hotel Beirut, Hilton Beirut Habtoor Grand, and Casino du Liban.
Youssef Abou Hamad is a Lebanese singer-songwriter and pianist. His love for music began when he started playing darbuka at the age of two. Taking piano lessons as of 1993, Youssef pursued his studies at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music. A member of SACEM since 2012, he cofounded RAND in 2013. Lili Abou Hamad is a Lebanese singer who studied music at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music. She also cofounded RAND in 2013. A landscape designer, she graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering from Saint Joseph University (Beirut, Lebanon). Furthermore, she studied landscape design at Agrocampus Ouest (Angers, France). In 2018, Lili pursued a master’s degree in urban design and city planning at University College London (London, UK).
Jamale Abou Hamad is a Lebanese artist who studied music at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music. A member of SACEM, she cofounded RAND in 2013. She got her BA in film from Saint Joseph University (Beirut, Lebanon) in 2016. Her short film “Endless Ache” was featured in international film festivals in Lebanon and abroad. Soon after, Jamale moved to Los Angeles, US where she completed in 2018 the full acting program at Stella Adler Academy of Acting. www.jamaleabouhamad.com features the different branches of her work as an artist.
